First Pooja Kalash Sthaapana : On the first day of the Navaratras, a small bed of mud is prepared in the puja room of the house and barley seeds are sown on it. On this Bed a Kalash made of Copper is kept and filled with water.

Shashti Pooja : Durga Puja Sashti, or Sasthi, is observed on the sixth after new moon in the Bengali month Aashin. Goddess Durga is welcome on Sashti to Puja pandals and households.

Saptami Pooja : Saptami is the first day of Durga puja. Kola Bow or Nabapatrika is given a pre-dawn bath. This is an ancient ritual of worshiping nine types of plants. They are together worshiped as a symbol of the goddess. The main Saptami Puja follows Kalparambho and Mahasnan.

Valmiki Jayanti :Valmiki Jayanthi, or Balmiki Jayanti, celebrates the birthday of Adi Kavi Maharishi Valmiki. It falls on the full moon day (Purnima) in the Hindi month of Ashwina.

Ashoonya Shayan Vrat :Ashunya Shayan Vrat or Shoonya Sayan Vratam is the festival observed during Shravan month. Ashunya Sayana Vrata is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi.

Kartik Snaan starts :Full moon day bath in the river, tank or on a well in the month of Magh (January-February) Baisakh (April-May) and Kartik (October-November) is recognized as more auspicious and especially so if it is in Kurukshetra, Ayodhya or Kasi.
